Kenneth Noland - Artist

Postby pkafka on Tue Feb 24, 2009 9:28 pm

Anyone familiar with the work of Kenneth Noland? This post is simply a tribute to his stuff. He was one of the original color field artists. A contemporary of Mark Rothko and Morris Louis.

Let me know what you all think. These are a few of my favorite works:

As you might be able to tell, I am a fan of colors. I love how something so simple, a circle, can be so beautiful when created with the right colors. Goes to show the effect colors have on the mind. The pink painting is so relaxing. I love this stuff. But I am a minimalist when it comes to art... So I guess it is expected.

I am not a big fan. I need art to tell a story! Concentric circles do not tell a story to me.

The one I could possibly get into is this one:

I like it for the very fact that the arbitrary nature of the blue offsets the perfection of the circles.

Lord Fondlewick,

I really like that one... Actually might be my favorite. I think minimalist art tells more of a story than any other type. It portrays emotions and feelings as opposed to just representing events.

There is a lot more depth in an abstract painting.

I actually really like Van Gough because he uses very liberal brushstrokes, but still paints an actual picture:

To me this satisfies both our requisites - it tells a story and portrays a good deal of emotion and feel.

However, I do not need a specific story; that is why I like the work of Noland.

I know that Iphone doesn't support any of those files, but is it somehow possible (maybe with an application) to watch a movie with my Iphone? And does Iphone support other formats except mpeg4?
